I.C.R.E
Isolated Communal Relief Experience
The aim was to introduce an intervention that:
1) Activates the space.
2) Allows for an individual experience.
3) Facilitates communal interaction.
As the semester progresses we noticed a significant increase in the stress level among students.
We built a human size sound proof box and placed it in the center of the court yard, for people to vent, scream, and basically, do anything they want. . We wanted the object to speak for itself; giving certain clues for its intended use, but leaving it open for multiple interpretations. The person, when consumed in the dark, sound proof chamber has a private experience, hearing only their own sound. That sound is instantaneously decoded and amplified outside the booth and into the courtyard as a melodic communal sigh of relief.
